My name is Robert Evans, I am the inventor and founder of The DoorGym. Thank you for visiting our website. Our goal is to make getting a fantastic workout easier and more affordable than ever before.

Where It Began

After studying Biology in college with plans to go to medical school, I began to understand that the best medicine is exercise.

I learned this firsthand while working as a personal trainer for nearly 10 years.

My Brother Paul

My little brother Paul struggled with mental illness, and in 2016, he took his own life. Whenever I took him to the gym, he always felt better afterward. I blamed myself for not doing more and fell into a terrible depression. It was exercise — not medication — that lifted me out of it. I began looking for ways to help others like my brother, people who may not have access to a personal trainer.

My Mom’s Injury

Around the same time, My mom was also struggling with depression and took a bad fall, fracturing her spine. This made it impossible for her to go to the gym. As I learned more about strength training for seniors, I discovered something shocking:

The number one reason seniors enter nursing homes is losing the strength to do basic things like using the restroom.

With my background, I knew I needed to do something.

Inventing The DoorGym

I discovered a void in safe and affordable workout options for seniors, so I bought a heavy duty sewing machine and started making prototypes. After years of testing different materials and configurations, I created The DoorGym — and I’m grateful to say my mom made a full recovery. Here she is practicing an assisted squat.
