QUESTIONS ABOUT DOORS

I live in an older home and my doors are shorter than 6'5 (196cm). What should I do? +

Easy! When you reach the shopping cart page, before you check out, you will find a message box titled ORDER NOTES. Leave us a note letting us know you want the "Short Model" which fits on doors between 6'2" - 6'8" (188-203cm).

I see that both the Standard Model and Short Model both work on doors between 6'5" and 6'8" (196-203cm), the doors in my house fall into this range. Which one should I buy? +

It depends on whether you want to travel with it. Many modern hotels have 7 foot doors. If you want to travel with it get the Standard Model.

If your primary door is 6'7 or shorter and you will NOT be using it for travel, the Short Model is recommended. When you checkout you will see a message box to leave a note. Type - "Short Model".

Will this work on hollow core doors? +

Yes. It's important to distinguish between hollow doors and hollow core doors.

Most hollow core doors have solid wood frames around the edges. In over six years of testing, these have worked well—unless a carpenter shortened the door without properly restoring the top or bottom frame (common in older homes with doors shorter than the 6'8" standard).

You can check by knocking on the top or bottom of the door—if it sounds hollow, the frame may be missing. If you're unsure, position The DoorGym near the hinges, where the vertical frame always remains intact.

Lightweight closet doors without a solid outer frame are not recommended.

What is the weight limit? +

Assuming a solid door frame, our recommended user weight limit is 300 lb.

However, the actual limit depends on the type of door used. For best results, install The DoorGym on a door that pushes away from you—this ensures you're pulling into the building's framing, not the latch or hinges, and prevents the door from opening during use.

If using a door that pulls toward you, solid doors with deadbolts or locks are ideal. Without a deadbolt, the door’s weight capacity is reduced. In this case, position The DoorGym closer to the hinges, which are stronger than the latch. Always ensure hinges and latch are secure and functional.

The DoorGym supports exercises ranging from 2.5 lb resistance up to full body weight. Please follow our setup guidelines to choose a door that matches your workout needs.

What types of doors are not recommended? +

The DoorGym works on the vast majority of doors—we’ve had less than a 1% return rate due to door compatibility. That said, here are a few exceptions to watch for:

  • Low-quality doors or frames made of thin plywood or cheap composite materials may fray or wear over time.
  • Metal doors with sharp or jagged edges can damage the webbing—only use metal doors with smooth, rounded edges.
  • Doors with interlocking metal brackets (often on security or industrial doors) are not compatible, as The DoorGym blocks the brackets from closing.
  • For hollow core door concerns, see the previous question.

The DoorGym is made with premium, abrasion-resistant materials. If you notice minor marks, they can usually be wiped clean with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. In fact, a typical metal clothing rack is more likely to leave marks than The DoorGym.

questions about set up

Will The DoorGym open and close with my door? +

Yes! The material fits in the space between the door and door frame.

Will my grandmother be able to set this up on her own? +

It takes about 15 lb of pressure to tighten the ratchet buckle. Once it is set up, it will be always be there for them.

I want to use this for travel primarily, how long does it take to set up and take down? +

Once you are familiar with the product, most people can set it up in one to two minutes and take it down in less than one minute. If you are unfamiliar with ratchet buckles, the first time you set it up will take between ten to twenty minutes as you watch our set up video and learn how everything works.

How much space to I need? +

The Senior Stability and Senior Stablity Plus Models work great in just about any environment, including narrow hallways and tight spaces.

We recommend six feet of space or more for the Functional Fitness and Functional Fitness Plus Models. Some advanced exercises require more space.

Why are the white and camouflage units more expensive +

The white units cost more and take longer to produce because of the extra care involved. For white webbing, weheat-seal every cut and stitch extra carefullyto prevent burn marks, which is a time-intensive process. Our camouflage webbing is made bysublimating colors onto white webbing, adding additional manufacturing steps.

I love the white but won't it get dirty? +

The webbing we use is non-absorbent and easy to clean. With that being said, the white is meant to be put on interior doors. If you are putting it on a garage door using it for travel, black is recommended.

I see similar looking products on Amazon that are significantly less expensive, what makes The DoorGym different? +

The DoorGym is proudly made in the USA using the highest quality domestic and imported materials. It's the only product on the market that allows you to safely and securely attach handles, suspension straps, and resistance bands at any height on your door—and easily switch between them.

We've tested every competing product. Most—especially the cheaper ones—feel flimsy, like a disposable razor, and often fail to stay secure on the door.

The key differences are in our premium hardware and our proprietary, non-abrasive material. This material is so strong and durable that it enables our patented tightening system, which locks the strap in place and keeps it secure during use. That means you can perform assisted bodyweight exercises with confidence and stability, knowing The DoorGym won’t slip or shift.
